Rick Owens Men’s SS13 Collection: The Art of Mixing Loose Silhouettes and Assymetric Shapes

Rick Owens, an American fashion designer, is far from a household name. His strong affinity for incorporating asymmetrical shapes and loose-fitting silhouettes into his garments likely have most men running for the exit. Could it be fear of the unknown? General distaste of the actual pieces? Depending on whom you ask, a case could be made for either, maybe even both.

Since bursting out onto the fashion scene in 2002, Rick Owens has consistently displayed a flair for the dramatic. His Men’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection proved to be no different. Providing a much anticipated yet expected level of shock value, he creatively dressed male models in outlandish avant-garde ensembles like long, sleeveless gowns paired with knee-high boots and dark-hued oversized zip jackets with kilts wrapped around fitted trousers.

Personally, I tend to gravitate more toward high street fashion than anything else, which leads me to a certain fondness for one of his more reserved looks. The ensemble featured a model wearing a white one-button blazer that covered an olive-hued turtleneck sweater, which teamed quite nicely with a pair of cropped black trousers.

While not considered a timeless collection by any means, I highly regard artists that choose to go left while the rest turn right. Rick Owens is definitely one individual that beats to his own drum.
